Hey there! I am Sarah a self taught braid specialist and also the hands behind these beautiful velvet bonnets. A bonnet is a hair covering that is worn mostly at night time to protect your hair whilst sleeping. Today we will be talking money… (don’t run away). I’m here to help you save your coins, while looking after your hair. Step into my office.

1.) Your Hair Products Last Longer

Ever wondered why when you wake up your fully moisturised hair, bantu knots or flat twists, were as thirsty and dry as a bagel without butter… despite having applied all the necessary products the night before?

You have haven’t you?

Believe it or not, me too, i’ve been there, and I’m so glad I now understand why. Allow me to share with you.

One word… Cotton.

One thing you must understand is that cotton is not a friend of your hair. What I mean by that, is cotton is known to absorb and strip all the natural oils and moisture from products leaving your hair dry and brittle. This has you thinking that the hair product you’re using is drying out your hair; Or you end up adding more product in the morning because it’s so dry (do I hear build-up?). And now you’re thinking the solution is either to try another brand or buy more products because the one you have is running low rapidly.

The solution?… Use satin bonnets

Satin retains moisture, which allows the product to be more effective. Therefore helping your hair to have and maintain a healthy shine.

The good news is that Cocoa's Touch bonnets offers you just that. Our bonnets are satin lined and we have a colourful selection for you to choose from.

2. Hairstyles Last Longer

I used to get my hair braided all the time, but it wouldn’t last and this would really bother me, can you relate? Someone once told me that wearing a bonnet at night was the solution to my problem. Sounded simple, yet that changed my life. So much that it awakened my creativity to start making these lovely satin bonnets and offering them to my clients. As a hairdresser I wanted to bring that personal touch that would help my clients maintain their braided styles or natural hair.

I realised that such a simple thing (a bonnet) will prevent you from getting regular touch ups sooner than needed, or just having to re-style your hair everyday.

Bonnets make hairstyles last longer because the satin interior creates a smooth surface for your hair to glide on at night, avoiding the friction that is otherwise created from the harsh fibres on cotton pillow cases, which creates that frizz in your hair.

“Can’t I use a satin pillowcase instead?” (stay tuned that’s the next blog).

3. Avoids Skin Breakouts

Our satin bonnets are the perfect finish for your nightly skin care routine. Here’s why… having your hair tucked away into a bonnet keeps all the hair products from touching your face when you move around at night, which mixes your hair oils and creams with your skin products, and could lead to it eventually clogging your pores as the products are very thick and heavy. Sounds like an additional cost to get rid of those skin breakouts too so, let’s avoid them before they get out of hand.

Satin pillowcases are beneficial along with satin bonnets because just as the cotton sucks the life out of your hair, it will do the same to your skin. Plus, it’s more of a luxurious experience when you sleep on such a smooth surface.
